The Curse

Set in 1980s rural India

Kalavati — your Nani — was a woman of deep faith. Every evening she lit the diyas, sang her bhajans, and filled the house with warmth.

But as she grew old and frail, something ancient took hold of her. A vetala — an evil spirit that feeds on the dying — possessed her body. The prayers stopped. The diyas went dark. Nani was no longer herself.

When months passed with no word, your father went to check on her. That was ten days ago. He never came back.

You arrive at Nani’s house. The door is open. The moment you step inside, it slams shut behind you. You wake in a dark room. Somewhere in the house, you can hear footsteps.
